Okay... A 37 year old Porsche/Volkswagen/AUDI hybrid that is in good shape. That is rare. No arguments there. But 18k original miles with zero mention of any documentation or proof? The odometer is only five digits! If it didn't roll over, then serious cash would have had to have been invested to replace a significant amount of the fuel system, and even as magical as Seafoam is, it can't maintain a tank of gas for a decade. And at this time, only the most die-hard 924 fan would invest any money in preserving one when they could use that money to preserve a 951 or a 968 that collectors would be more inclined to pay a premium for.
And pretending all of this is true, why is this, of all pictures, the best you can come up with? Don't you realize you're asking 4x the market price for the least loved Porsche of all-time, Cayenne excluded? YOU WILL TAKE THE EFFORT TO EXPLAIN HOW RARE IT IS IN ALL CAPS, BUT TAKING THE CAR OUT OF THE GARAGE TO PROVIDE PICTURES OF THE ENTIRE CAR IS UNREASONABLE?
Full disclosure - if the car is legit with the exception of an odometer rollover, I'd gladly pay $2,500 and play the hipster Miata card. but at over $100 per rear wheel horsepower? Seriously?

4x the market value? At 8k, Mathias could buy another fifteen 924's as parts cars for his own. That thing is 16x over actual value.

I'm sure it's a cool car and all, and the 914 was unloved a decade ago and has appreciated since. But the 914 was more Porsche than VW, and the 914-6, which was completely Porsche, commends a serious premium. The all-Porsche version of the 924 is the 944, 951, and 968. And the AUDI motor used wasn't the diesel or even the inline 5...

As JGrabowMST insinuated, I am a 924 owner, however I bought mine for 500 bucks. Running, with hard brake lines that are rusted through. I replaced the brake lines and the car now runs and drives.
My point is there is NO WAY in the world that this 924 is worth 8k. Your money is much better spent on a 951 or a 968. The audi 2.0 doesn't hold a candle to those engines, even the 944 NA is a better buy.
And you definitely don't want to buy the pre 80's 924's because they had all sorts of weird unique suspension shit and they aren't galvanized so they can rust.
Sure, my 924 has pretty bad cosmetic issues, but it runs, and drives, and it cost 500 bucks. A nice 924 isn't worth much more than 1500 these days. Heck, my friend bought a really nice 944 NA for 1750.
Here's some pictures of my 924: http://oppositelock.jalopnik.com/the-924-is-amo…

Well Porsche DID design the 924 for VW, so it is VW designed. The engine is weird because I don't know if any other actual VAG products used the EA831 (engine in the 924) but some american cars used carbureted versions of it. The 924 is a weird car, and the first water-cooled Porsche, however nice a title that may be but I think they will start to appreciate as well since most of them are rotting away in parts yards. I have seen many 924S's, 944's but I have never seen a Bona-fide 924 2.0 (audi engine) on the road.

Not one crack in that dash? The interior is pristine, that alone is worth 8k.

I would be lying if I said I saw one in as good as (claimed) shape as this one, but I have come across a few 924s and even one running 931. Honestly, I see the 931s appreciating much more than the 924s. And understandably so. I'm sure the 924s will appreciate, but they have so much going against them with enthusiasts being able to acquire 951s and 968s...

First off, awesome car.
Second, yeah, there are two 944s on Craigslist in the $2-3k range that have me thinking that, at that price, I could drive them until they die, then do either a budget SBC or non-budget LS1 swap. Even with the purchase price, a budget SBC swap would come in under the price of this, but with more horsepower, better suspension, sexier (IMO) body style, better brakes, better chassis, etc., etc.
And finally, thanks for the heads up on the galvanization. I live in Nevada where rust on cars that have spent their whole life here is rarely an issue, so that often gets overlooked despite it being a legit concern for a car this old.

You apparently have more discretionary money than most of us. $8k can still get a solid 914 or 986.

nonsense. that interior is horribly ugly.... albeit in a totally awesome way. :)

I can repair engines/transmissions etc. I can't repair stitching or 25 year old plastic with cracks. At least I haven't tried!
